Villefranche de Lonchat, a small historic bastide town built by the English and has superb views of the surrounding countryside where vineyards mix with woodland and pasture. Truly French, Villefranche offers festivals and other entertainment throughout the summer season to which all are welcome.
Local amenities include a doctor’s surgery, pharmacy, hotel and restaurant, a bar tabac, a boulangerie, and local shop, and post office. There is a small market on Tuesday mornings in the village square where fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and cheese can be purchased.
The village also has a small museum in the Marie that hosts a collection of local artefacts and is open every Tuesday throughout the summer season.
A short distance from the village is the beautiful Lac de Gurson. A large lake with restaurants, a sandy beach and safe bathing area, this is an ideal spot to picnic, relax, soak up the sun or stroll through the woods.
Montpon is a town only ten minutes away and has a large supermarket and a selection of other shops and facilities including a cinema, which regularly shows films in English. There is also a large market here on Wednesday mornings.
